Squamish Front Country Assessment
Purpose
The Squamish Front Country Assessment seeks to describe the trail network and its various recreational uses that makes Squamish a special place to live and visit. This assessment aims to characterize each network and its value and place in the community in order to inform ongoing management of the diverse and unique trail system in a continuously developing community. Changes to the trail network will always be inevitable. We have a wide assortment of landowners including BC Parks, Indigenous Titled/Crown, Private, and the District of Squamish. Many trails on these lands have been built without landowner approval and, as a result, have less opportunity for long-term protection. This survey is not intended to establish or imply any right to use these trails.
A Steering Committee overseeing this effort is comprised of Squamish Nation, Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA), Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, District of Squamish, and Recreation Sites and Trails BC.. In addition, an Advisory Group comprised of the Squamish Trail Society, Squamish Dirt Bike Association, 99 Trials, SORCA, Squamish Access Society, Squamish Nation Trail Users, and community members at large helped to capture the characteristics and value of each trail network area.
We are now asking the public to provide feedback on the characteristics and values attributed to each trail network by the Advisory Group.
The Study Area was broken down into individual trail network areas for review, that are generally aligned with the local common names and areas.
